Trolling motor base came loose from boat.. Is anyone familiar with these rubber grommets. They have a nut insert
Question is: is this grommet going to expand when bolt in threaded? Or should there be a second nut under the deck that may have vibrated off
Thanks for any information!
They will expand. One thing to look out for is make sure the hole is the correct size. Don't wallow it out. If its slightly too big it won't hold well. I wouldn't use them on aluminum. Vibrations will cause it to cut through the rubber. All issues I've personally seen on my boats.
Thanks Searcy,
I just don't want to have to pull off front deck. (its has rivits). I bought this boat used a couple years ago. Any suggestions on what I could do, other than the expanding grommets
I used nut serts on mine and it's an aluminum boat. I haven't had any problems. You need a special tool to set them but i haven't had a problem and I have a fortrex 80.

Thanks everyone! I found some and have them ordered. From what I can tell, they are pretty much "junk" from the reviews i have read. But I really don't have a choice at this point. I'm just going to keep some extra in the boat
I had the same problem and took a piece if 1/2 inch treated plywood, drilled the correct size holes for the rubber inserts, covered it in carpet to match the boat, then screwed the plywood to the aluminum trolling motor mount, and re-installed the trolling motor. Been working great for 6 years and it help to reduce the metal clnking sounbd when you raise and lower the motor.
