I sat down here behind my computer and thought of tenthings that I think help me to catch fish. Maybe they will help some of you. BeforeI start please feel free to add some important stuff you do that may helpsomeone also. Whelp here they are.
#10 Preparation, checking your boat/trailer, having it hooked up to your truck, and making sure you have all your needed equipment loaded, along with havingyour poles rigged, cleaned if needed, and tackle organized the night beforewill make your trip go more smoothly and give you more time on the waterfishing. Study maps, talk to your buddy's, Do your absolute best to find outwhere they are and what they are biting before you make that drive.
#9 Boat Control, Sooo critical on the water when fishing... not keeping yourboat under control when fishing is losing half the battle, weather youranchored, or spider rigging, or pulling up to that stump, log, dock or treemake sure your boat is in the best possible position. Wind and shade has allotto do with boat position. Unless your dragging a chain or drift sock you shouldalways approach/fish into the wind or in from where the shade hits the water, this way you don’t cast a sudden shadow over the spot you want to fish.
#8 Keep Moving, If you’re not catching fish in a spot within 15 minutes andcovered different depths then move on, it's location!!! location!!! location!!!If you do find a spot where they are biting and the action slows... LET IT RESTand return to it and most times you will catch more fish.
#7 Be Versatile, By learning how to vertical jig, bobber fish, spider rig, longline trolling, and trolling cranks you have become a knowledgeable and wellversed fisherman who can adapt to any given situation, River, or Lake.
#6 Seek out experience on the water, This means spending as much time on thewater as you can, go with other good fisherman who can help you, Many of themhere on Crappie.com. well versed in the above tactics who will share with you the things they have taught me over the years.
#5 Don't be afraid to use a Jig or a Minnow, at times one can and does out fishthe other!!!, so why not have both in your arsenal. Also tipping a Jig with aMinnow can be a game changer. I will always have a selection of crappie nibblesin my arsenal also. Wink, Wink
#4 Invest in and learn how to use GPS and a Good Depth Finder. When you can'tgo fishing unless you have your Depth Finder and GPS then you know you havemastered #4. These two tools are invaluable on the water and today's depthfinder just don’t tell you the depth they show you the FISH!!!
#3 Buy quality fishing equipment, stay away from the the cheap stuff your onlyhurting yourself, research your rods, reels, lines, talk to buddy's try theirstuff out before you buy. You don’t haft to spend a fortune to get qualityequipment. One quality Rod n Reel is worth 100 snoopy poles
#2 Fish Moon/Weather Pattern's, three days before, during, and after is mostlikely your best fishing in any given month, stable weather warm or cold willmost always produce better than unstable, post front, high pressure situations.
#1 Live, breath, and eat crappie fishing, Learn, read, get on line, You Tube, there is sooo much info out there to help make you a better fisherman and studythe fish you seek (crappie), Nowadays I won’t buy a fishing magazine unless ithas a couple of articles in it about crappie fishing.
Here are ten things I believe in, Im not trying to be the all knowing just want to start a conversation and hear some of your points and whats important to you all to help you bring home Silver Glory. Thanks Guys...N Tight Lines.

X knows of what he speaks. You can't catch fish if you don't go.
Great info CP. I think number 9 is really number one for me!!! Time On Water is an equal factor!! Wish I had more TOW!! The numbers may be re shuffled for each person, but the info is Spot On!!!

Great list CP. It is spot on.And yes BRM, I live for the day that I can work on that one. This one day a week stuff is killing me. If we can take care of ourselves just long enough to retire I dream of trips in a big red boat. Now you watch those cigs and I will watch my chocolate and we will wait at the mailbox for our check to fill the boat up.

Great stuff CP
Great stuff. I think having a variety of colors and sizes of lures is important also along with a big umbrella for when it gets hot outside. Don't stop crappie fishing just because the spawn has passed.
Always keep the slack out of your line when reeling in a fish ive seen so many people loose fish because they let slack get in there line.
Go fishin when you can Billy E. because when you get to the time in life you are refering to, your body is worn out from all that work you have done through the years! It takes me about 2 days to recover from a day of fishin. My body hurts like I've been beat with a broom stick! Don't know how some of you go every day.
Thanks CP for the info. I for one who has so much to learn appreciate it very much. I have not come across those experienced crappie fishermen in NW AR to learn from yet. Guess I need to make some trips to central AR to learn from the masters. It is this type of info and thoughts from others that make this site so useful to me. Thanks CDC members.
