    Default Line Wars/Breaking Strength

RTARK is always telling me how strong his Mr Crappie line is so I decided to put it to the test. I tested Mr Crappie Hi-Vis, P line, and TriLean TransOptic all in 8 lb test/Mono. I used my digital fish scales and hung it on a door knob with a short piece of twine. I then cut off four foot sections of each line and tied the tag ends together. I then wrapped the tag ends around a cylinder piece of wood to act as a handle and secure the line from slipping at the tag end, leaving about a 1 foot loop. I Put the loop in the scales hook and then applied a steady downward pressure until each line broke, while watching the digital read out. I noted at what weight the line broke at during each test. I tested each line three times to add validity to the test. I was surprized at how close each line broke at within a few Ounces each time. I then took the average breaking strength of each line from the three test results. A good way to see just how strong your line is compared to others. Any of you can do this at home on a rainey day. Here is the results.

Mr Crappie/Hi Vis Line Dia.010... took an average of 18lbs 11oz to break

Trilean TransOptic DIA.025 took an average of 18 lbs even to break

P-line DIA.023 took an average of 15 lbs 6 oz to break.

So RTARK you are right that Mr Crappie Line is some tough stuff and at .010 DIA WOW... I will bet for those of you that dont like Hi Vis Mr Crappie clear lines are also just as tough. I will test others to try and De-thrown our initial Champion. But as of right now Mr Crappie is in the lead.

I didnt know it before but I see that the dia of the others is twice as big as Mr C. If all the test were identical and you used the same knot at the same place , it dont make any difference. Good test.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

Good test. I use Mr Crappie 6 lb test for trolling. I fish out of a 17 ft Glasstream and I have had 2 lines to get hung up at the same time and stop my boat without breaking....Thats some TUFF line!!!...Sounds like the 8 lb is just as tough....Not too crazy about the 4lb line tho.

NO Dennis no knot to break. The tag ends were tied wrapped around the wooden handle leaving a loop of line to test with, just the force of the line/Loop was pressured agianst the Hook on the digital fish scales in a steady downward motion untill it broke. I look at the amount of weight it takes to break the line each time.

what kind of P-line did you use ? My 8lb p-line is not .023 ??? NOt taking anything away from your test , it sounds like a good one but the diameters shouldn't be that much different for 8lb test . Most 8lb lines are .011 or .09. Glad you shared this with us been wanting to try Mr. Crappie line anyway. OH what knot are you using ( just wondering so I can get the most out of my line strength. Thanks !

If I'm picturing it right in my head, it sounds like testing the line in a loop isn't as accurate as testing a straight piece connected to two different points. Definitely a neat test. But I wonder how each line would do with a hook tied to each end?

P-Line CX is 0.23 MM or .92 inches
Trilene Transoptic .25MM or .10 inches
Mr Crappie is .25 MM or .10 inches

Sorry here is the correct specs in Metric and Inches. RTARK your Mr crappie line is not twice as thin as the others cos there is a metric measure ment and in inches measurement which i got confused... but Mr crappie is still the strongest I have tested so far. There is no knot involved in test, this test is conducted with direct line pressure against weight of scales.

Add a zero to the P-Line Russ. I think it should be .092

Good test, glad you posted the data. I use the 6LB cajun red and it seems pretty strong too but i've thought about going to the hi vis MR Crappie in 6LB. One other thing to consider is how easily it frays. I bass fish a lot also and those new Fluorocarbon lines seem to fray way too easy. The FC lines also seem to have too much memory off the spool. Tried that Berkly Vanish also and it is terrible about fraying. Thought I'd add this about these lines before somebody else had to figure it out the hard way like I did. I think I'll pick up some 6LB Mr Crappie line.
