Stopped by Academy Sports and picked up a couple more items. Anyone besides Slabbandit use verticle rod racks (tubes)? I seem to drop livewell lids or get my rods broke sometimes by stepping on them. It will be just to hold 12' jiggin rods while motoring down the lake. The long rods sticking up out in open water should not be a problem unless I forget to take them down going home. I plan on mounting the holder on my steering console. Was planning on using PVC pipe, but found this rack on clearance about 75% off.
My power pedastal for the front is too tall for me even. I bought a new pedastal mount and will remove the spring, then cut off post to shorten height.

Nimrod, we use PVC pipe verticle holders, and have been really happy with them. We would probably have the store bought rack like you're talking about, if we had a place to mount it, and it was free. We've only had a tangle once, and it was our fault for having the lines loose, and not reeled up all the way.

Nimrod - You'll look like one of those boat for hire rigs. The cost of the pvc will offset the cost of a rod tip.

The PVC cost $5.07 + tax at lowes made enough for eight holders 18 inches a piece

I think you have the same holders I put in my sticksteer. I don't have any problem motoring down the lake with 10' and 11' trolling rods sticking up. I did get pulled over on Greeson a couple of years ago. The ranger said I looked so much like a striper fisherman, he just had to check me out.
I don't know too many striper fishermen in a 16' sticksteer.
