    Default Stuttgart?

Hey guys! I’m new here…and to crappie fishing for the most part. I was wondering where the hotspots are around here…say within maybe 30-45 minutes of Stuttgart. I usually fish lakes at Ethel and Biscoe off the Cache/White rivers but have had less that satisfactory luck as of late and with gas as high as it is would like to find something less than an hour away.

Thanks and good luck all !

First of all welcome to the board. Second you dont need to look for a place to fish any longer. Just ease on up to Peckerwood Lake and start catching some slabs. Peckerwood is about 10 miles north of sugar town up highway 11. I have heard or read info from a biologist for the AGFC that says that Peckerwood lake is the most fertile lake in the state. I know from freinds and some personal experience that the lake is unparalleled for spring and early summer crappie fishing. In the summer the lake gets to low to fish from what I understand but now its great. Try spider rigging or just drift fishing some minnows. Remember to keep us posted on your success or failures out there and again welcome to the board.

Bad luck around Ethel??? If you are having bad luck in the white river refuge, you might want to toss salt over your shoulder and hop on one foot!!!! You need to reverse the curse!!! I would drive there everyday if I was not over 2hrs away. But gooch is right, I have never heard a bad word about Peckerwood. I think some guys were catching some at bayou meto, but I am not real sure how far that is from you.

    Hey ARCO

There are plenty of places around here to catch fish. Peckerwood is a good place to try and has plenty of good slabs, I will be there this weekend. The White River and Cash River has several places for good crappie fishing and there are several ox bows from the river that have good fishing also. I live just minuets from several prime crappie lakes just south of Clarendon about 15 miles.

There is actually a lake named "Peckerwood"? How funny!
Being in the Stuttgart area, do you use mosquitos for bait? I did a Safeway store there many moons ago, and them suckers were big enough to use for bait.

New here too! But we went and stayed at the WWR around Ethel the last couple of weekends and caught lots of Crappie and Catfish... Trying to find somewhere close to LR area. Close enought to fish a few hours after work.

Yes ,there is and it's private. You fish for a fee last I heard. Also the skeeters are bad anywhere in the Delta country. If you venture after dark in the warm months you might need a blood transfusion ! Seriously they are bad ! At times the wings make a low hum in the night as there are trillions of them. That is really a low estimate of their numbers. They should be the state bird instead of the Mocking bird. They out number them million to one and are nearly as big !

Peckerwood is still private, at least you have to pay anywhere you can launch. I think the mosquitos around there are about the size of a humming bird!!!

Yeah I know I should be slaughtering ‘em at Ethel, but I am just hitting it wrong or something…due to my job my fishing is sporadic at best. I may have broken the curse yesterday afternoon though with a catch of 27 in 3 hours. Nothing big.

I grew up in Roe and I know all the holes around here, I just don’t know when to fish what and what is good when. Going to give Peckerwood a try Saturday afternoon if I can.

Thanks much for your replies guys!
