Default I got more learning to do

Went to Little Bayou Meto this morning. Graphed fish everywhere in about 5-9 FOW suspended in 15-18FOW. tried 11 different colors and minnows. Zeroed. I guess I'm going to have to invest in some Meatgetter jigs.

Just because you graphed fish does'nt mean they were Crappie that are biting or even Crappie at all.

Amen to that Nimrod. Your best bet this time of year is finding them in the deepest hole, or migrating to it.

I was in the deepest hole but I guess I was not doing it right or I was not where the fish were.

I have learned over the years that crappie that are suspended, say 15 feet, over 30 fow are tough to catch. Longlining is a good way to catch these kind of fish. But crappie that are within 2- 4 feet above the bottom in 30 fow can be easy pickens for tightlineing. Most of the time, especially this time of year, I can usually tell crappie from bait fish, but it is harder to tell crappie from a school of whites etc, but mostly I can tell crappie by the shape of the signals. Xring and I have called the bites many times from the signals we received. Crappiepro fished with me today and most of the time we would predict when a crappie would strike. We would find the school, catch a few and they would move off and the hunt would began again. Its just a matter of spending hundreds of hours watching the FF and fishing. Today we put 40 in the cooler and xring put 20 in his by using this strategy.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

rtark, do you fish a 1/8 oz single jig tightlineing a single pole that deep?

Yes, most of the time I use 1/8th but sometimes I use a 3/16 with a #2 sickle hook because the bite is good and I want to get back down there quicker or there is a wind an I need to stay verticle. If I am casting at suspended fish I try to use a 1/16 to get a slower fall. Sooner or later I will get something right and catch a few.

Try smaller jigs when they won't bite the heavier ones , works for me.
