    Default spawn? for shallow lakes

I went fishing last nite, 5p - 9p. put out yo-yo's, and did some pole fishing with jigs. I caught a few keepers on poles, and a few keepers on yo-yo's. Fishing was still kind of slow. I couldn't keep those darn catfish off my minnows, either. The water is very stained, and still really shallow from the drought. (private lake, central arkansas, england area) water temp - 72 @5p, cooled down to 68 @9p. jigs were chartreuse roadrunner w/ white curly grub. Caught most of my fish around trees in 1 foot of water or less. Yo-yo fish were in 2-3 foot of water, 3-5 feet out from cypress trees. The interesting thing is most of my crappie were 11-13 inch range, (1 pseudo-slab, 14", 1-1/4lbs.) Only had 8 big enough to keep ( had around 8 small ones i turned back), but 7 of 8 were females, with clear yellow mushy eggs in them, and not many eggs left. I think these females were in the middle of spawning. This weekend had better produce a big cooler for me. Crappie on.

It was interesting while i was on my trip this last week that alot of people said to fish ultra shallow and the fish had been biting well.... but we found the bulk of the fish had moved off the bank into deeper stuff. The interesting thing is that they were still holding eggs. I think they saw me coming and decided to get weird on my behalf.
