I land some mighty big fish on my Buck's 12' jig poles. Usually it means you have cracked or damaged the pole first unless your using too heavy a line. I use 8 lb test Berkly Vanish Flourocabon. Just landed a 50'' Gar a couple weeks ago.

No fellas lol This is a Fishing hole over by Bald Knob "POLE BRAKE"!!! Crap i was confused what yall were sending lol i spelt BRAKE wrong !!!
What's going on with all the gar, anyway? I was down in Hurricane in Bald Knob and they were popping the water every few seconds. Do they do this every summer? I havent been fishing long enough to know.
Gar come to the surface to gulp air when the water temps rise and the disolved oxygen declines.
Man they are so thick i mean everywhere we were even catching baby gar raking for crawldeads when i was at Honey lake the otherday there were 100s and especially in the river in the litle ditches off the river they are like a day care for gar
Thanks abhunter, I learned something new today. Maybe theyll move on to deeper water soon
As long as it stays this hot you'll be seeing them do that until duck season in hurricane
