Thread: What is this snake?

come on jig, that's a common saying around here and other parts. it's ok for people to call them what they want to call them. if it doesn't fit your criteria so what? they are right. you are right. everyone is right in their own way. it's like calling a crappie a spec in one part of the country and a white perch in another. both are right.

We have common snapping turtles, and alligator snapping turtles. We do not have loggerhead turtles!

Loggerhead is a specific species which we do not have, call it what you want... It was actually suppose to be funny until smokey the bear had to argue!

Back to the snake, looks like a copperheadedrattlemoccasin to me! :D

I've always called em loggerheads and everyone I know called them loggerheads. Even my herpetology teacher called them loggerheads. Yes they are alligator snapping turtles but loggerhead is a common name for em around here.

Same here, but 99% of people do not know the difference between an Alligator snapping turtle and a Common snapping turtle. So most people see a snapping turtle and say loggerhead!
A common snapping turtle is a lot more aggressive and is what you see 99% of the time. Most people have never seen an alligator snapper and never will!
