Crappie are schooling fish. Where one is caught others may be nearby
    Fish the area thoroughly.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The sheep live in fear of the wolf but in the end it's the shepherd that eats them.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang and
a gun the goes bang when it is supposed to go click.

The Ego Reach net has really made it a lot easier for my dad and me to land fish when we're using our 10 & 11' poles.

If they look like they are hooked good i usually just walk the pole back to till i can grab the line and swing him over the side, but if i'm not getting good hook sets i'll use a net

I fish 2 14' rods and just peel line if I know I have less than 14' of line out. It's a balancing act for sure, but I think the longer rods give an advantage to the fisherman. So what if I lose one or two occasionally? Like you said, they will just make babies.

I usually keep one rod in my hand and one in a holder. The one in my hand is almost always deployed with 14' or more of line and, Like Nimrod, I just use the rod as a gage to keep the bait where I want it. Works for me.

Ya better hurry. I took my neighbor out yesterday and kept 17 of those slabs. Same places. All the females still had eggs but they looked rotten. The males were black. I even caught a few in your private spot by the ramp.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.
