Corps of Engineers to break levee - KFVS12 News & Weather Cape Girardeau, Carbondale, Poplar Bluff
i know tall has been reading about this if you google cairo it don't seem like a lot to save. either way a lot of people's lives and livelyhood will be effected.
That is a bad deal! I sure hate to see it!
I know some guys that farm that area, and one that has stock over there. They figured when it's flooded, he might be able to see the top of his barn.

Won't be the first poor decision made by the Corps on the Mississippi.
I can't believe they are just sacrificing the property and livelihood of the owners of that 130,000 acres which is going to be made into a lake. I can understand high water breaching the levee and damage occurring. That's the risk of owning property along the river. But for the Corps to intentionally blow the levee is shocking! Hope they have to take the damages caused to the property owners out of their own budget for the years to come!!!
My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!
I've been through there once or twelve times. I don't think I would want to live there. You know they say, and I've read, that Cairo used to be "the place", back when, and way back when. Wonder what happened? They still got the two rivers and a RR. You'd think it would be bigger than Memphis. Maybe St. Louis outgrew it, or state monies went to the development of Chicago?
tall, google cairo and you'll find out what happened to it and then you'll wonder why the corp did what they did instead of just waiting and hoping the levee would hold. i'm sure they knew the rain was going to stop. makes me wonder if the "powers" that be didn't have a hand in the decision.
