I have seen some maps for GPS's for lakes, the one I looked at was for larger lakes. Has anyone seen one for smaller lakes like Conway, Maumelle, Nimrod... Etc.?

I have a navionics app on my Droid that cost 11-12 bucks. It seems to have the same info as my 150 dollar SD card for my h'bird. It has maps of Nimrod and maumelle with 1 ft Topo lines. Conway has nothing but the general outline of the lake. The navionics app is truly awesome. Every major lake from Iowa to Florida.including Texas,,Oklahoma, la, et al. Lacks TN. Only drawback is the battery won't last all day. GPS eats batteries.

I have an iPhone but that's not actually GPS right? Don't it use the towers? Some times it's right on the money, some times it shows I'm on the wrong side of the road, some times it shows I'm a block away. I had two hand held GPS's, I thought the iPhone replaced them so I sold them. Now I'm ready to throw my tops out I found out the iPhone is not so accurate... I bought another Garmin just now but it has no maps which is fine as long as I can find my tops, but I seen the map software that is strictly for US lakes. Shows creeks, rock piles, and what not...

Can you get Google maps on the iPhone? Works as a GPS.navionics "Lakes US..south" has a GPS function for the lakes but not much more than basic highways. On the navionics app I can take a picture and send it. The recipient can go to Google earth and it will show where the picture was taken. Also it shows on my map so it functions as a waypoint. A good all around app well worth 11 bucks

I understand, but I don't think it's true GPS... Does it give GPS coordinates?

JPJ... youre right it works off cell towers.. you need this to make it work with sat signals. http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=116
Its called spot connect.. it turns your iphone into a satellite phone via blue tooth. It was designed for emergencies for avid outdoors men away from a cell signal.
But the brush piles and creeks and available for download on the web at Ark game and fish. AGFC | Arkansas Lake Maps --- They have a lot of lakes here, but some are without the good info. Lake maumelle has a good.
For the creeks you need NHD data, which is provided by the USGS. But you'll need some kind of GIS/GPS software to convert it to work with youre GPS.
I'm a GIS/Cartographer and I make a map of every place I go. PM me for a map of a lake that doesnt have any data online. Or if you need something converted for your gps.

I use MotionX GPS on my iphone. Does good out in the woods. Uses Google Earth map or Bing. I like Bing, because it will track "up" and Google won't. But it works off the cell towers, not satellites like a real GPS.

Have not tried it on the water to see how close it is. It does give coordinates. Ground speed. But not like a good GPS.
