    Smile Toledo Bend

Last Saturday I found myself near Many, La., so I ended up fishing Toledo Bend on the Texas side where they have a 10 inch minimum and a limit of 50. The guide I was with and I ended up with 73 keepers, most of which were 11 inches or better. We might have got a limit, but we froze out in that cold rain and 25 mph wind. We were catching them in 3 - 4 feet of water fishing a jig under a float about 20 inches deep. They probably averaged about a pound apiece.

Sounds like a lot of fun! :D A limit is 50! Ben wonderin' where you are. You haven't been on the board in awhile. Glad to see you're back! Thumbs Up

Wish we had enough to support a limit of 50 here. Even keeping 73 sounds like a heck of a trip.

It was for a fact, and I believe we would have caught our full limit of 100 if we hadn't frozen out. We got on the water at about 7:30a and quit fishing at 1:30p. It was raining when we started, but it was a slow warm rain. After about an hour the cold front started coming through, and the wind got up to about 25mph, and the rain turned cold. We were having to tie up to snags to fish. The fish started out really scattered and wanted something slow. We went from a really slow retrieve of our jigs to a really, really slow retrieve to putting on a float, letting it sit and then pulling it 4 - 6 inches and letting it sit again. About an hour or hour and a half before we quit we tied up to a snag and caught 20 or better. We then untied and went about 20 yards further down along the bank, retied and caught another 20 or better. By then we were getting chilled and left, but I still wonder if we had gone another 20 yards if we wouldn't have hit another big bed of them. We had a ball!

I've been working 7 days a week and lots of hours a day on a lawsuit. The last 4 weeks I've been in Louisiana nearly as much as I've been in Arkansas. The only reason I got to fish last weekend is that I had a deposition in Many on Friday, in Shreveport on Monday and in Rayville on Tuesday. When I figured it out, it was considerably cheaper for the client to pay my room and board for the weekend than to pay my time and mileage to drive back to Batesville and then turn around and drive to Shreveport, so it worked out for everyone: the client saved a lot of money, and I got to go on an outstanding fishing trip.

I fished on Sunday also, but the front had done it's thing. We caught 21 in a little deeper water, but they were better fish and probably would have averaged better than 1 1/4 pounds.
