Hi Guys! This is my first post here, but I've been reading the forums for quite awhile now.
I'm really just getting back into fishing again after a long time off. When I get to go, I usually don't have too much time, so I just go down to Harris Brake and fish for awhile.
But the lake is still pretty low, so I'm looking for another place close by with some bank fishing. I don't have a boat. Nimrod and Conway are probably the best two close by, but I haven't been to either one in a long time and don't know where to go when I get there. When I was a kid i remember catfishing by the damn at Nimrod and i think that's about it. Me and Dad drove around the lake if I remember right and couldn't really find a place to go for crappie. But we caught a good many on the river side of the damn.
I don't think I've ever except once at the 89 bridge when the lake was really low. But I've been around the lake more than Nimrod and know the area a little bit better.
Thanks for any help guys, I got the itch to go early this year, hope I'm not late again for the crappie.

Welcome.
I don't know too much about bank fishing since I have a boat. Try the peir on Pierce Creek on Conway. I know it has plenty of brush under it. The red ears might be accessable on Gold Creek from the banks soon. Better yet, rent a boat from Dano on Gold Creek.

There is a handi-capped accessiable fishing pier on Nimrod. It is at Andersons Branch Access. There are several spots like the pier at Carter Cove. The main lake rocky bank west of Carden point can be good in early spring, can be seen from the highway. There are lots of spots if you look.

There are several places to fish on conway from the bank and from fishing peirs, what species you want to catch, maybe i can help guide you in the right direction.
You can't beat the taste of them ole fried SLABS N TATERS!!
Going for crappie right now, bream later, then whatever but Harris Brake will have recovered by then I'm sure.
The problem with fishing early on Harris Brake is that they draw down the lake to flood the woods across the road from the levy. For the ducks I think, I don't know for sure. It leaves us bank fishers with a lot of mud and muck to go through just to get to the water.
Me and my wife will be in Conway monday, I'll talk her into going for a drive around the lake with me so I can have a look around. Maybe go to Pierce Creek and fish for a bit when we go by it. Haven't been out there in awhile anyways.
Nimrod, I think I know where you're talking about at Carden Point, but I never knew what it was called. I just know that I can see it from the highway as I go to the bait shop down there. I always thought it looked like a good place to go, but thought it was private land. Is that public? There is a very narrow road that goes down in there if i remember right. The other places you mentioned I have no clue where they are, but I did find Carter Cove on google maps. I'll drive down there and look around next time I'm out there.
I AM going fishing monday, weather permitting. With or without my wife in Conway or Nimrod. My itch is turning into a rash, gotta go. LoL
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Hey rangerxlt, i fish from a boat when the weather allows it , but so much of the time in spring i do a lot of bank fishing. If conditions allow, i will put on waders and use a longer pole to work the brush and timber in the back of creeks. Suggestion, be on the lookout for a steady warm south wind, blowing into the back of shallow coves with incoming flow of water., for a period of 3 days or longer. This brings in the shad and you will catch some of everything from crappie, white bass and good walleye. Use a stiff spinning rig and white 16 oz roadrunners. I will attempt to post some photos of the results of this type fishing, if i can figure out how to do it. Remember this is only good in the spring and before the spawn. Good fishi

Forgot to mention. It is a better bite if a front is coming in and particularily in a rain. Do not try this if it is lightening in the area.
All the lake shore around Nimrod is public (COE). The rock bank west of Carden Point can be good at times as it warms quickly.
