Slabsntaters,
Conway has been stocked with Florida's for the past couple of years.
Nimrod,
You’re correct on the saugeye stocking eventhough it has been several years since nimrod recieved any saugeye. This policy is being revised. The policy for stocking florida largmeouth bass is "the stocking of Florida-strain largemouth bass will be restricted to south and east Arkansas below the Ozark and Ouachita highlands fall line and lakes within the Arkansas River valley." However, this is left up to the each district whether they recommend stocking them in a water body. This policy is being revised also.
Hope this info help. Please, realize there are many biologists that work hard for you the angler and then spend alot of their free time fishing too.
Feel free to contact your local biologists with any questions about stocking. We would be glad to talk about stocking or any management efforts.

Thanks for your repley Jeremy.:D
Just wish someone would respond to my questions about private landowners using WMA lands. The Commission knows about it and the lower level folks refuse to talk about it. The main office will not respond as it's been asked. The sports writer for the state paper has been sent the info and will not respond either. Pretty sad when politics let some rich folks do as they please with state lands and poor working stiff are bound by the same laws they are allowed to break.![]()

They stocked floridas in mallard lake up here in the northeast corner. Cant get much further north without getting in mo. They also killed the fish in big lake to plant millet for the durn ducks.
Sorry to hi jack your post, slabsntaters.
Dink Catcher,
You are correct that Florida Largemouth Bass were stocked in the Mallard Lake. They were stocked before the last renovation. Since then, no Florida largemouth bass have been stocked. We do stock northern strain largemouth bass in there. Big Lake is controlled and managed by the UFWS and we don’t have any saying in the management of the fisheries in Big Lake. The draw down at Big Lake might actually help the fish left in the lake by increase the available food supply making them healthier going into this winter.
Olduckhunter,
You are correct, after the renovation, the lake was pumped back up from adjacent ditch. However, the revovation was conducted becuase of the yellow bass. The fish populations are looking good in the lake right now and should continue into the future.
If you have any question about fish management in NE Arkansas, call me (Jeremy Risley) or Sam Henry at 877-972-5438.
Again, sorry to hi-jack this post.

No glad to have you on the board Mojorig, it helps to have someone to defend their position, most of us guys on here have been in the state awhile or most of our lives, we are just stating the way that we have seen things go over the years. I am very familiar with my district biologist in my area of the state and TOM and I dont see eye to eye on alot of the moves that they have made in and around and on lake Conway. The florida stocking is one of the big ones, most of us Conway Bass fisherman know what the lake used to be like, and it is no where close to that any more. Back in the late 70's and early 80's that lake was booming alot of bass over 10lbs was common, now you can fish 7 days a week all spring and summer long and count on one hand how many bass over 5lbs you catch, but that came after several Stockings of several hundred thousand florida bass in the 70's. Now we do good to get 50,000 every couple of years, just enough to keep the water turkeys fed and fat. Lake Conway could be one of the premier fisheries in this state, but never will be because it aint deep enough to support trout, walleye, or hybrids. Once again just stating what it appears to be happening. I do believe the AGFC gets a bad rap some of the times, but with some of the desicions that are made its hard for John Q. public to give credit where it is due.
You can't beat the taste of them ole fried SLABS N TATERS!!
Looks like alot of folks didnt make it to drop the structure so you should probably just post all the coordinates.:D Those look great and should hold alot of fish.

Hey Slab - With all the structure you guys dropped, How could you not find it. It would be like the blind hog and acorn story. I think I could find some of it with my can-string-sparkplug method. Like I said I cant wait to get down there and lose a 1/2 dozen jigs . See you soon!

Billy E come on down, the fishing should be getting hot by now, the wood structures should be starting to hold fish now, the PVC wont be far behind it, it just has to slime over. I spider rig to find the structures, My gps went on the fritz and I lost all of the coordinates, I am buying a new gps before the weekend and I am going to log every single peice of structure in the pool I can find, new and old. So maybe next week I will have the coordinates for the structures without having to hunt for it with a spider rig. The worst thing that happens in the pool is, I see alot of people that dont pick their anchors up when they move their boats around and they get tangled in the structures and drag them away from the spot they were sunk at.
