Does anyone have a suggestion on side imaging unit. Thinking of buy a new graph and need to bite the bullet and spend a little money. Looking at the Huminnbird 898si unit but not sure. Has larger screen and may be worth the money. Second question is? Where to go to get the Best Price??
    any help is appriciated.

My experiance with side imaging units is limited, however I am not impressed with the picture that comes back. Take away the imaging and the humming bird graph is the best on the market, the gps and the screen size is a great plus. And there is alot of other features that are really nice. Depth shading is really nice. It will allow you to shade a certain depth, say 25 feet, the. It shows the areas of the lake that is twenty five feet deep. It allows you to focus your attention to one certain depth, and shows that depth over the whole lake.

    Default Graph

I use the Hummingbird 798SI and love it. I was not sure I could see the smaller screen but I have found I can. I use the side imaging feature all the time and love the GPS. I actually ran a previous day track on Dardenelle in the fog. You will not be disappointed.

I'm looking at buying also. I talked for an hour with salesman at Bass Pro. He advised the HDS 7.....$1,599 with side imaging...He was telling me you can add it later though if you couldn't afford it right now and get the unit for $999. Bigger is better when looking at displays in the sunlight...

Only problem is that I have talked with others that have had problems with the lowrance units. They havent had theres as long and may still be working out the bugs. Also, I hear that Humminbird has alot better support and service. The more things you have to put together to get it working means more chances for problems. To me if Lowrance would package it all together, Then it would be worth it. It seems like they are pricing everyting they can. One thing that has to be considered is to make sure it is mounted right and durrable. I have a buddy that has a humminbird that had a problem early on and they were great to work with on fixing the problems.

Hey Slabs, what kind of Hummingbird are you running? I like that idea about depth shading. Seems like it would be mighty useful at times.

That would be the himminbird 1198c, but that's on the tournament rigged bass rig that is used only for green carp tournament fishing. But it is handy, when you determine that the fish are at a certain depth, you can shade that depth of water for the entire lake. Then run from spot to spot and be in the depth of water the fish are preferring, it just eliminates one more of the search factors.

That's what I was thinking. Would save a lot of time and effort when you found them at a certain depth in a fairly large body of water. What's the going price of a 1198c?
