I got a 798 si last year and really like it. I'll like it more when I finish figuring it out! Get the navionics chip,it has serious detail that's great for trolling.
Bought the hummingbird because the screen on my Lowrance went out and Lowrance said they no longer service my 5 yr old ffinder. I'm done with them...

Humminbird SI is the only way to go I have the 1198 and 997 on my Ranger and a 797 on my xpress duck boat these units will improve your deep water crappie fishing a 100%!! They are not the best in shallow water if you don't get the settings set right but I would buy humminbird for the customer service as well they are outstanding!!

Like Kn and Crappie I run the 798c SI. I like it real good. Just don't get the ci units with the internal GPS. Stick with the 50 channel external pucks. Humminbird all the way.

Hey Yankee, what's wrong with the ci units with the internal gps? Working toward an upgrade this year and plan to go Hummingbird, but don't want to go wrong with the wrong kind of gps. Appreciate any info you can pass on.

Isn't there also something about the maps you get from Humminbird? Seems like one of the dealers told me Lowrance maps were alot better...??

Well I went and did some checking 'cause I tho't the unit w/ internal antennas updated slower and had less channels, but the new units list it w/ 50 channels. If you have two HB units that are GPS capable you can link them through the interlink module off the one antenna. The slow refreshing thing may have had more to do with the processor anyway. Check out the Trolling motor/electronics board for some more/better info.

The preloaded maps aren't much, but the HB units accept Navionics Hotmaps and one other I believe.
