Default You have heard this before "not crappie but ..."

The past few weeks when I have had time I have been taking some folks from church that do not get to fish much, we have been trolling for and catching White Bass, limiting out each time. I am ready now to go back to crappie fishing but with the weather remaining about the same and knowing they are there and how easy they are to catch it is hard to stay away from those Whites, I do love catching them.Name: 1124101550a.jpg

Very nice Whites there fishbaskett. I don't blame you... I love to catch 'em and eat 'em too.
Here lately our weather has been so cold and windy you can't hardly find a time to go when you can
tolerate it. I'm planning to go Friday and make a day of it.
Great report and pics. Thanks for sharing.

I just did a devotional of Proverbs 27:17 not long ago, If I can locate it, hand written, I will pm you with it.

You know eating those Whites is just taboo with some folks but we like em just fine, had some for supper matter of fact.

Do that fishbaskett... it's one of my (many) favorite passages in the bible.
I don't eat Whites as much as I used to... the white perch have just about ruined the White Bass populations
around here and the way I understand it... the same is true in alot of lakes and waterways in the last many
years that previously had good populations of White Bass.

I am not sure how crappie could hurt the White Bass population, Whites are such voracious feeders and prolific spawners looks like it could be the other way around..

No fishbaskett... I didn't say crappie... I said white perch have hurt the white bass populations because they are even more voracious feeders
than crappie, white bass, largemouth bass and many others and are said to out compete the other young species for forage.

Their is two species that fall into the area you are discussing. Myself I thought a white bass and a sand bass were the same but they are two different fish. The sand bass is mainly referred to as a trash fish or hog feed fish.
The sand bass my Dad used to call them rock bass. Some folks get the sand bass mixed up with the striper, but again two different fish.
A rock bass is more of a green color and stripes are darker green than a white bass. The white bass is a good name because it is whiter than most bass.
White Perch is what some of the older folks call Crappie and now we have white crappie and black crappie and we have some shell crackers in our waters also.
I have caught sand bass when fishing for crappie, but I need to get some white bass and try them out--Believe it or not I will bet that some folks do not know the difference in a sand bass and a white bass.
Do you guys consider the two the same fish.

A lot of areas call white bass sand bass. We catch yellow bass along the Miss. River that are similar to whites, but yellowish in color. Sure can tangle lots of lines when you're fishing a spread.
