Default Water clarity makes a difference too!

Up here most of the lakes I fish are very clear. Early in the season (prespawn) when the fish are deep, spider rigging works well. When the fish have moved in closer to shore in the shallows, I change to either fishing under a cork or tight lining w/ long pole to get into the weeds where the fish are. Sometimes I will pull out my flyrod and sling black ants, etc. too. When the spawn is over and the fish move back out, its' back to spder rigging, and long lining. When the weed cover has advanced to top water stages and the water is really clear, then spider rigging seems to not work well unless you get really far out in front of the boat. Crappie are spooked easily. Casting to the edge and slow retreive works well then too.

I see you hail from AR. You have some clear water there too. The wife and I are headed your way, to Greeson, this spring. That's a pretty clear lake as I understand it.

    Default

I spider rig with weights of 1/2 to 2oz. depending on the situation. I use 10lb. mono and merely tie small lppos in the line to put a hook or jig on. The 1st hook is about a foot above the weight and the 2nd is 15-18" above the first. Hope it helps.
