    Default Talapia

I have a fellow asking about fishing for talapia in Arkansas. Are they still stocking those here. Where are some areas near Little Rock?
    Thanks

Hey Don: I was in Florida a few years ago and caught the fire out of them. Since they are a nonnative fish they have no restrictions on catching them. Me and my brother caught about 150 over two days. They are very good to eat and we did. It was fun trying to get them through the alligator gauntlet before the gators snapped them up.

They used to stock them on Lake Hogue on the Bayou de View (sp?) WMA near Weiner among other spots. Don't know currently.

    +1 on what Turtlebait said.

We have historically stocked them in a number of lakes (Mallard and Hogue). The prices on them were much higher than usual this year, and obviously AGFC is having to make some budget cuts like the rest of the world, so we did not choose to stock them this year.

They are stocked primarily for bass food, and only very distantly second to provide another recreational fisheries opportunity for Arkansas anglers. They generally do not live through the winter. I would bet that if the prices become more reasonable, they may be stocked in the future.

They stock them at Wal-Mart but I'm not sure if they let you use your own pole, lol. This is Arkansas, fish for crappie and bream and leave the tropical sunfish to the restaurants.

I have gone fishing at Walmart and Sam's before. You are always guaranteed a stringer full from there.
You seen anymore coons on the bridge lately?
Gonna come by and get you on one of the dinner cruises soon.
