    Nice catch; Moma use to make "Gar Balls" and they were really good. They were kinda like salmon patties; sure would love to have some of her gar balls now..............

    I would've paid to see that rodeo.

    No fish for me either. Cut duckblind brush, did a little vehicle maintenance and tried to stay cool after that. It looks like it will be 2 weeks before I can go "gar chasing"

    Use some gloves or a rag to hold his bill. Beat that dude on a tree or telephone pole. Some just hang em up and use a big stick. This make the meat turn loose of the shell. Then chop off head and tail with an axe. I split the belly with a heavy sharp butcher knife. Then pull the body out of the shell, sometimes it may take a little cuttng. After removal of the shell , cut out backstraps with a fillet knife. This is similar to cutting backstraps off of a deer. I then remove any red on the fillets and slice into fry'n sized pieces. Some recipies call for grinding or chopping.

    Well I'll be... I am def going to have to try that next time i hook one of em!! Thanks for the info!! Lord knows there are a bunch of them big ugly suckers over there!!

    Mr.Nimrod that is quite a day of fishing, pretty intersting on how to clean a gar, fun to catch but I never cleaned one. I do not believe I will try to either.
