Most of them are green sunfish. PM Hawgdog and he can tell you all about them.:D
You should've been here yesterday!!!!
Most creeks and sloughs around Arkansas have them. They get pumped into irragation ditches along with all kinds of other fry. Some fish farmers raise them for bait or to stock ponds. They have even hybridized them with Bluegill to create a fast growing fish for ponds.
They make good Flathead bait, but I like to catch my own as I perfer larger ones.

Rice Slick + Hook = Flathead
"Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn." - Chuck Clark :D
green sunfish...best flathead bait there is imo...good eatin if you can find some big ones in the creeks in the northern part of the state.
funny hammer...real funny..lol...sounds like you and nimrod nip it in the bud!...So I won't chime in anymore bout the "slicks"
They look more like a goggle eye to me. They have a larger mouth than a sunfish. I find them more around rocky structure than anywhere else. I may keep a larger one to eat. But, they have too much of a body cavity and will not leave much meat after fileted.

"If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
Green Sunfish and Warmouths are both called Goggleyes in some locals. Here is some pictures of Flatheads that were caught using them for bait.:D
