Was down there a few weeks ago, had to go fish other waters to catch some fish. Lake Chicot has been very disappointing to me for awhile now. It should be the best fishing place around, but with the draw downs and keeping the level a foot low every year during the spring, it has seen better days. In my opinion. The one's in charge claim the lake is being improved, but it doesn't make sense that you can catch fish all around, but the fishing is poor at that lake.

While my kids were growing up they loved to fish off of my parents dock and catch plenty of bream, bass, catfish and crappie. Even they noticed the change and remember the good old days.

Didn't mean to carry on, but I've got alot of good memories fishing on the lake and I hate to see the way it is. You can still catch alot of catfish there, and probably alot of jumping carp.

kg, i never got to fish chicot during its' hayday but have heard the same storys that you mention from those who did with the same complaint...i know fish are still being caught by a few who know exactly where to fish but unfortunately i'm not one of the few so i usually cross the river or head a little further south.

I agree, that place should be the premire crappie lake in this area but those in charge must have other ideas. When they are bitting its hardly worth the drive just to catch 20 fish

Sad but true! I live here and fish elsewhere. I know dock owners and other residents that fish Chicot hard and regular and a 6-10 fish stringer is a really good looong day of fishing. There's a great many theories (I have mine too) as to why the lake doesn't produce crappie like it used to or even produce like several surrounding lakes do every year. AGFC will not say the crappie fishing is poor, only how much stocking goes on in Connerly. The lake is a good bass and catfish producer and many still try to crappie fish here but without much success. Every once-in-a-while you'll hear a rumor about 'ole so-and-so catching his limit of "slabs" but I've not seen the fish. Who knows? I do know that I've not seen a "good" (not talking 'bout 10-11 inches) limit of crappie come from the lake in 6 or 8 years!
