    Default trolling rig

I'm curious to know what type of set up everyone uses when trolling for crappie. I use the "store bought" setup from eagle claw that has the clip on the bottom for your weight and the side wires where the hooks go, I don't know if all this garb helps or hurts the fishing or if it makes any difference.
As bad as I did at the shoe this weekend, I'd like to blame it on something.
Also, what size weight does everyone use?
Thanks in advance for your replys.

I tie my own with a loop knot for the upper hook or jig then about 16" below that I place a 2 oz egg sinker then tie my bottom hook or jig about 12" below that.

What rods do you use to hold the 2 oz. sinkers? Does this much weight put a big bend in them ?

Wally Marshall signature special. Yes it does put some bend in them but not as much as you think. The Tight Line Specials can hold 5 ozs with no problem.

    :

Creek, what is the advantage of having the weight between your hooks?
I have my weight on the bottom. Is there a application for both set up's or is it just a preference thing?

It's just a preference thing for me. It's one of those deals "that the way I have always done it." I have tried the weight on the bottom and caught fish so it will work either way.

I have tried it both ways too. I had a prob with the sinker in the middle, when I drop my bait to the bottom the sinker would go down faster and my lower jig would tangle up. I had to let it down slower. Then I used a 1/2 oz bell sinker on the bottom and two jigs 12 " apart above it. When I hang up I lost 2 jigs and a sinker and takes a while to rerig with cold hands and bad eyes. Just tonight I redid everything. I loaded the reels with 12lb braided, tied a bell sinker on the end and then 18" of 6lb leader with one jig on the end. On one rig i am using straight braided with 1/2 oz sinker 18" above the jig. I am going with one jig cuz I rarely catch any on the top jig anyway. I am trying to come down to the best way for me.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

how deep are you trolling? I have a hard time with a 1/2oz weight in 20-28ft of water. I can't seem to go slow enough to keep my lines vertical, that's why I use a 1oz.
