There's usually some big flocks of them at the Pendleton area on the AR River in Winter / Early Spring. I've also seen a few at Peckerwood. Weird dudes.

How'd you do at Atkins? I've never done very well on that lake...
From the ARK-LA-MISS Delta....... Crappie Paradise ! ! ! !
When I moved here from the coast, I was shocked to see pelicans. I thought they were strickly a "blue" water bird. I see them frequently now while working at the port. They are a migratory bird. Check out Darryl's websight. I think I remember he has some pictures of them on Degray.

I've seen big flocks on White River at Batesville twice in my life. I absolutely couldn't believe it the first time. They were colored like snow geese, and when I looked them up in a bird book I found out that they spend their summers in Utah or Canada or somewhere. I can't remember now.
I used to fish Atkins alot whern I lived in PB. I did not ever see many, but early in spring there were usually 10-20 out there every trip. I did some fishing below Jefferson Dam and there were always alot of pelicans there in winter and spring. I even caught one one time while fishing for stripers below the dam there.

I work in an Office on the Arkansas River near downtown with a 3rd floor view for the past 10 years. I see these B-52 size birds, flying in big flocks doing big circles hitting rising thermals pocks as they wind up and down the river at a pretty high level. They are white with black wing tips...and the monster yellow beaks. They look like they have about a four foot wing spand. Also Sea Gulls frequent back and forth at different times. Birds...blah blah. I like the summer months when you might spy a topless babe from time to time zipping up and down the river....or some nut out there trying to ski when the water is flowing hard.
