Watch for post from Creekslick. His info has cost me about $250 in the last few weeks gearing up to troll cranks.
Some people should be banned from the boards!!:D
creekslick... What lakes do you fish on?. I may have my house sold here, and if so we will be moving to Cherokee Village, Ar. I don't know that much about the lakes there in Cherokee Village, but I have rode around on Lake Omaha there and the hydilla [sp] grass is high in the water column.
What is your thought on fishing the lakes there with all that grass. I know there are crappie there, do you think they get down in that grass?
I can't wait to pull some jigs or cranks down over that grass, but I bet I'll have to beat those ole green crap off those cranks...lol.

Cowboy I fish Greers Ferry pretty much all time. I make an occasional trip to Norfork Lake and Ouachita. The only one of these that have grass is Ouachita and I have a hard time catching them there. When you get moved up here give me a shout and we will make a trip to Norfork or Greers.

Do you add any weight up the line to get the bait deeper?
Grego
If I do not troll crank baits I will troll 1/8 or 1/16 oz jigs with a curly tail. But lately I have been adding a hammered spoon to the setup. Jig on top and the spoon about 18 inches down on a small #20 snap swivel. One side is painted and the other is left the bright nickel hammered finish. I seem to catch more on the spoon. Guess it is the flash and the flutter action.
cowboy,
my mom has a house for sale in cherokee village. if you decide to move up there, I'll send you a link to her house for sale. pretty area. she's not ready to retire & having some difficulty finding decent work there. it's a big retirement community. they have several nice lakes up there. i haven't fished up there, but it's very peaceful and pleasant. good luck.
hey creekslick, have you had any experience with planer boards? I got some of them, and I've tried them, but never for a full day, and still getting my project boat finished up. Instead of buying 20 ft'ers, I may use my planers to troll for them on greers. It seems you should be able to cover more water with them & get at least 4 poles in the water. I'm just like you creek, I've spent a lot of money on setups for trolling & spidering.
