went to poinsett friday morning. Was on the water before daylight caught probably 18-20 with only 10 keepers. Others were small ( ~8inches) including one hawg bout 14 inches. Biggest crappie I have caught there.
the bite was on till bout 9 using minnows bout 10ft deep drifting in the bigger coves

Had 3 friends fish spring river today and it sucked too, however they did have what looked to be 6 or 7 in the cooler.......I told them so before they left lol.

To my figuring monday and tuesday from daylight to bout 9 0r 9:30 a.m on lake and oxbows the bite should be good. From there its down hill back to lockjaw for a few more days even the moring bite want be good after Mon. and Tues.
Think the rivers would be a fellers best ideal to catch a few,the moon, stars, sun, earth are out in the twight zone scaring the fish off lol.

How much has horseshose greened over?About 4 weeks ago the lower end was completely greened over.

Almost the whole lake was greened over. It's a mess I tell ya. We couldn't even get the bream to bite much. Pretty sad.

I'm just now trying to learn how to fish the green, been fishing it alittle every time I go but haven't learned the art.I do all my fishing by casting and learning how to cast into dat green stuff and trying to judge how thick the green is getting easier.
I was hoping I can learn how to cast into the green and not having to use a long pole to do so to break though it.I keep 4 rod rigged with different size jig heads in different wts. and can tell by looking at the green spot as to which wt. jig to throw to break though.I like hearing the sucking sound the fish make while feeding under the green.
If you know any tricks fishing in the green stuff please by all means I'm all ears.

If its not raining in the morning I'm either going to horseshoe or hill slough, more then likely hill slough b/c it want all be greened over like horseshoe. But then again if I'm going to learn how I may just as will fish horseshoe and hope for the best.

Well I guess I'm not the one to give advice on the green stuff because I didn't catch squat. LOL. I can usually catch bream at Horseshoe but I have yet to catch a crappie out of there. We got so frustrated we went to throwing buzzbaits for bass and my buddy did catch 2 crappie on them. Stunned us because we never have seen that one before. LOL. I really like the looks of that lake but I wish the green slime wasn't there but I just love all the cypress trees and knees. You would think you would just pull slab after slab out of that lake but here lately I seem to be stumbling around with it. Hope you have better luck than I did. If you do, please inform me. Thanks

By the way Turtlebait, I have never fished Hill Slough and was wondering if I could get my boat in there. I have a 16 ft Fisher with a 60 hp motor. Is the slough big enough to maneuver around in? How about the boat ramp? Thanks

Sure, easy boat ramp not every steep.
Its no worse then horseshoe lol, more stumps and trees, zig zag around trees and stumps and watch out for snakes in the trees lol.Its a long slough twist and turns like a big old chicken snake. If you run the big motor go slow until you get the hang of it,the stumps sometimes like boats hung up on them.I can run from one end to the other wide open with a 25hp 15ft lowe and with luck hit maybe 3 or 4 floating under water logs.I know the lake and would not advise anyone to do so.I've had to help a few people get off stumps but really its not that bad.I have a 1800 FS tournment tracker with a 110hp and its been it several several times with no problems.I do most of my fishing(99.9&#37 out of the 15ft. lowe b/c I like my tin boat.
Fished there today for bout 4 hours and it sucked, nothing in the cooler, catched a few hand size bream and one small crappie. No fish movement whatsoever not even gar, birds were not singing,no animals moving.I thought with clouds a mist of rain they would jump in the boat but they didn't.
