SeaRay, 5 days or even a couple weeks, I can understand, but not 6 months. He wants to do the entire thing!

He's off to the Bighorn mountains in a couple weeks. The kid is experiencing things that most won't ever. He is able to do this because he earned a full ride to the UMN, with a monthly stipend and has a great paying internship with UTC up there. All of his earnings are spending money for him! I hope he is at least saving some for a new car...

I envy your boy. Would love to have done the Appalachian Trail from end to end. Best he do it before the real world starts. Next thing you know he will be working full time, find a wife, have kids, and regret not going on that hike. I have only done one 50 miler on the AT. Pretty easy trail, he will need to work out the logistics of food/supply drops at local post offices. there are numerous books on the subject. This fall I get my first knee replaced, doubt I will ever get to thru hike the AT. After having said that, I ain't dead yet!!! There is still hope.
