I Spent/spend a LOT of time in Alaska camping for extended periods of time alone/with 1 other person in an environment almost IDENTICAL to the one that they are in. I have had many, many run ins with black bears and a decent amount with brown/Grizzly bears. Black bears do NOT intimidate me whatsoever but those big brown ones do. Have not had any dealings with the Cats but giving the choice I would rather tangle with a bear than a cat...
Biggest things I noticed on the show-
RULE 1- When in a heavy large predator environment you DO NOT cook, eat, wash or have any soap type stuff within your immediate camping area. You ALWAYS cook, wash etc at least 100 yards DOWN wind of your sleeping area.
I have stories about this one.....
Most of these guys are ill prepared mentally for their environment. 95% of being on an extended stay in the wilderness is your mental attitude, sadly in todays world most of us never get to REALLY test OURSELVES to see what we can and cannot handle............
We have had many a client who are "big bad macho hunters" turn into whinning little girls in as little as 3 days on a 10 day brown bear hunt.
