Elk hunt 2014 in Arkansas live

Well what a morning this was to be. Got up extra early and made the drive to where I had found elk two weeks ago. I was greeted by hoot owls and the sounds of nature as I sat in my truck awaiting the morning sun to rise. I heard a faint bugle of an elk I thought to my self as the birds chirped in my ear. I donned my white walking shoes, grabbed my hunter orange vest and hat. I loaded my .17 hmr in case I saw a coyote or squirrel too. I proceeded to walk up the woods road as the sounds of nature came alive and the elk thundered in the distance. As I neared the clearings I could see and hear elk everywhere. The cows were mewing and the Bulls hearding them up. I saw plenty of deer too in the small clearings. I got to the bottom of the hill and watched in awe as nature took its course and the woods came to life. I used the wind at my face to edge closer to get a better look at one of my potential victims. I practiced with my gun in haling and exhaling trying to keep her steady for when the real time comes. The elk neared and I snapped a few shots but the best ones are saved in my memory. I leave these majestic animals unscathed and none the smarter that Ol JW was even there. Until we meet again tomorrow my friends of nature. God is good and I was blessed to have a great morning scouting trip. Sure wish I could've found some one to go along with the experience, especially after the hunt when the work begins hauling out a 1000lb animal. Oh well, I will continue as my story unfolds.

Now quit reading and go catch some fish.

WOW! What a great morning in the woods! That's a great bull standing there, JW! I can't tell the distance but I can see you were zoomed in pretty good. Hope you get to down one like that Monday! Got a chance to get out this afternoon after going to the orientation meeting. The brisk wind was nice in the bottom holler I was walking through. The elk started moving early and a friend of mine and I watched over 100 come down the trails. What an awesome site to see as the big Bulls buggled and herded the cows and calfs around the place. After watching the elk we headed back to his place where we were greated with a fantastic home cooked meal. Will be an early day tomorrow and hope they continue to do follow the same pattern.

Hope the hunt goes quick as I just got news my mother in law is in the hospital with chest pains. Sounds like chf to me so no time for playing around up here.
