At one time or another, Gillchaser I was afraid to even mention much about saltwater fishing fearing backllash from diehard crappie anglers. Then I realized we are in UL sub forum and a few members made it clear there's also a saltwater sub forum especially for folks out of Florida who posted some outings. If any YT entertainment video you'd like to see about saltwater angling, I follow a British LRF..er from Devon, UK. His channel a real treat when learning to set up lure-ONLY -specific gear for Light Rock fishing off harbour and rocks. His setup range from drop-shot Berkley Gulp to 7g tungsten jighead tipped with JDM worm or plastics. I'm not that diehard...lol. I consider myself more UL/multi-species than the pure lure-only guy, but I always start out with artificial first till nothing will work and like you I often bring both UL and a ML telescopic for that one windy day I'll need minimum a 6lb mono. Story about the Medal on the Ribbon ?

I think it’s a great looking rig. Am I one of those purists,I think not. I love to fish and the surroundings that pursuit brings me to. It’s not all about the fish for me. I may target a certain fish when I begin but the bag usually mixes somewhere along the way. The only reason I haven’t taken my ul stuff salty yet is destruction. Salt will eat some metals and I’m pretty happy with most of what I have now and don’t want to beat it up. The mangrove snapper and seatrout would be great fun but I’ve also hooked up on the snook of my dreams and was unable to even get his name before he was in the next zip code. I was sure I didn’t get a good hookset and have since moved to heavier actions. I have to look through the rigs I now have and revisit the idea. A 20” seatrout on a 6lb rig would be quite a challenge. Thanks for throwing down the gauntlet. Let the games begin.

Tim , my brother and I used to put our rods and reels in the shower
once we got to our motel room , and gave them a good fresh water rinsing.
Never had any issues with them .
We hit the carwash and rinsed the boat and trailer as soon as we were able to also .
Once we got home I’d run my little outboard in a large trash can filled with water . I even used a little dawn in The water once , but got a lot of bubbles. Had to dump the water and refill for a clear rinse .
The good old days

I used to just rinse my gear off in the shower too (JDM gear). But then I ran across some spray made by Varivas that is like a neutralizing spray. I vacation at the beach twice a year using my JDM gear. Some ultra light and some a hair bit heavier. I enjoy throwing small plastics, pompano jigs, and metal jigs. The spanish, blues, and ladyfish sure are a lot of fun on metal jigs. This JDM gear is fun no doubt. Just thought I’d mention the Varivas spray and got sidetracked. Beautiful travel rod you got there!
