I think a shock leader would reduce action and casting distance resulting in a decrease in number of fish caught. With 2# line you are going to lose some nice fish but you will get more strikes than you would using shock leaders or heavier line. If things go well you can catch giant fish on 2# when they do hit. This year I caught an 8# and 10# bass and a huge grass carp over 50# using 2# mono that I might not have even hooked with heavier line. 4# and 6# line look like rope to me and only use it when fishing strictly for bass or hybrids. I'd say try the shock leader, you can always cut it off.
