Z, Abu makes great bang-the-$ rods for sure, but be careful. Their blanks somehow seems brittle when bend beyond necessary...I've had hairline fractures on 2 MB, a first Gen and a MB3, just saying. You are correct. I've come to the conclusion that to protect myself as much as possible when pursuing high end rods that I need to look for the tech in the blanks. Rods from Graphite Leader.....TenRyu....and the new Major Craft Banshee are using T1000G...MX40, or in TenRyu's case Magna Flex, gives the rods much more elasticity yet allow them to keep the very high sensitivity. EverGreen also uses T1000G...and there are many others. While I really enjoy fishing my Abu Garcia rods it is not lost on me that when comparing them side by side with my rods that have the T1000G they are not as robust. Now having said that I have caught several thousand fish with the ABU's with no issues save for that one rod that broke several years back. But going forward I will look for the high tech blanks.
