    Default Leland TCB modification

I have 2 of the TCBs very nice rods for the most part. What I don't care for is how long the rear grip is. I've managed to break the tips on both of the rods since got them a year ago. Broke the first on last year by leaving the rod in a rod sock on the deck of the boat going down the highway, wind bent the tip to far, fixed that one with epoxy and a sewing needle I broke the second one by stepping on the top guide a couple weeks ago.

It doesn't seem that the replacement tips are in stock that I could find. I use the rods for my wife and others in the boat. I almost ordered another whole rod, but decided to order a replacement top guide. While looking on mud hole for top guides I found an EVA butt that would fit the blank.

Armed with no knowledge and a cutoff tool I shortened the rear end by 3.25 inches. I like that length much better. Down side is the tip section is now that much longer than the rear section of the rod, have to watch when putting them in the hard tube. Name: 20230824_184136.jpg

I replaced the original tip guide with a FUJI alconite guide. I ordered 5 different sizes from 4.5 to 7 mm. The 2 smallest sizes are SIC inserts saving them in case I need one for my JDM rods.

The butt length on that rod is my biggest complaint with it as well. Does that end cap glue on or simply press on with friction holding it in place? Looks like a great solution either way.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Z, I use stuff from there all the time lately. Some 30 minute epoxy works fine and 91% alcohol works good for cleanup and overage. You fixed the only complaint I have with mine but it isn’t in my hands often so I’m leaving mine as is.. if you haven’t already done the epoxy, butter up the inside of the butt cap and twist it on and you’ll get good adhesion and less cleanup. Acetone works too. Glad that worked for you

I just have the end friction fit on at least for now. Going to mess around with with a little bit of weight for balance. Right now I have a 9mm casing over the end where i cut it and the end over that. Piece I cut off weighed 7.9 grams, 9mm case is 4g I didn't weight the foam butt cap. Rod seems slightly tip heavy with a Legalis 2000 mounted to it.

Thanks for the tip on sealing it with epoxy.

If you know someone that pours jigs you could have them add a little molten lead to the bottom of the case and epoxy that on when you were ready. I never thought of using that but it seems it would be a good fit.

Very nice mod, skeet, and some good comments by the members. I love.my TCB, but I also wish the butt was a little shorter.

Using the 9mm case wasn't planned, it just happened to be there when I was looking for something to use for weight. I was thinking about using a brass insert for a carbon arrow but it was too big for the ID of the rod blank. The 9mm case just happened to be close to the same area in the garage.
