There's a saying go.."If you can, then you must." Growing up fishing I remember me and a handful of cousins can only buy what we could afford and what we could back than were mostly Japanese reels. In the late 70s and early 80s MADE IN USA reels like the Penns were expensive and Daiwa and a few other Oriental brand were cheap but quality were so so. So we sourced our from flea market. Reels like the old Heddon, Pfluger, and yes the Abu Garcia were cheap but caught us tons of fish. As an adult now I can say I'm pretty much capable of buying any reels or rod made available, but still choose wisely because I'm still a hobbyist at best and an amateur at worst. But when I did go the JDM path it's because I'm curious as to why all of a sudden now MADE IN JAPAN rods and reels are a thing. However like most folks here I bought them to fish not to collect, but hate getting rid of them even sitting there collecting dust...lol. Cheers!
