My all time favorite UL spinning rod is a St Croix 4 piece UL travel rod .
Why?
It’s not the most sensitive or lightest rod I own , but it used to live in my truck , ready for battle wherever I found a spot to wet a line .
I’ve probably caught more fish on that rod than I have on all of my others combined.
I caught my PB crappie on that rod , my PB shoal bass , my PB UL catfish, and PB UL LM bass . A 5 1/2 pounder .
They are not the greatest at anything except catching fish .
Congrats on the new rod, I know you’ll enjoy putting it through its paces. My hope is that you enjoy it and it becomes the one you reach for without thought. I have a few different rods that have a special spot but the most versatile that I have a high fish count on is a Lightning rod in 5’6”. Not expensive but it just does so well.
And when you get antsy about the dollars expended, go on gunbroker.com and look at the browning citori target shotguns I drool over. The current crush is the 725 model in a 32” 410. At just over $3000 it will be a while before it would stand a chance to be mine. And as they go among the different brands, it’s one of the cheaper ones. One of my club brothers let me shoot his Caesar Guerinni in these dimensions and it was sweet and I shot it well. Then he told me he gave over $9000 for it. I thanked him humbly and carefully gave it back before I hurt it. Kinda like high end ultralight shotguns.
Congratulations. The short rods are lots of fun. The only one I have at present is an old Garcia Conolon fiberglass one from the 1960s. Much different feel than the modern carbon fiber rods.
Skeetbum, great contrast with the shotguns. Rods are relatively cheap!

I was at a field trial nearby some years back and someone there had a mod 21! He let another guy there use it to gun in a call back and that guy let me fondle it a moment! Damn it was beautiful. That's not bad enough at a springer fun day near Portland, I ran into Janet Christensen coming in and she was carrying a mod 21 Grand American! WOW! She didn't let me touch it!Quote:

JDM rods are nice but you don’t need one to enjoy ultralight fishing .
