Default First Impression of 2021 Presso

After waiting since July the Presso 2021 reel arrived today. It's stated weight of 145 grams is correct.....I get the same weight on my scale. As with most new reels now there is no anti-reverse switch so for those who must back reel this reel is not for you. The reel is buttery smooth and I perceive the ease of rotation equal to or maybe slightly better than the 2017 Presso Limited. The drag sound...as with all the Daiwa LT reels..is somewhat muted compared to a Shimano drag clicker sound. But one will certainly be able to tell when a fish is pulling drag. The reel...as most of us already knew...is made in China. While I would have preferred it to be made in Japan the reel looks great...fit and finish are as good as my made in Japan 2020 Luvias. I will get some line put on it and take it trout fishing tomorrow. I guess time will tell if Daiwa plans to produce a Presso Limited model. Based on my just out of the box look I would not hesitate to purchase again. I have purchased around 16 UL reels out of Japan since 2012. None have ever disappointed. Excited to get this one on the water!

A nice looking reel for sure, if it feels low inertia now it should get even better with some use. Maybe iFish won't get ahold of one and try to pull the tractor grease out of it . Cant wait to hear and see it in action on the Trout streams! Congrats on the new edition to the stable.

LOL…it is a nice reel. No way he could not think this is a low inertia reel…but who knows. Personally I have no issues with the 2020 Presso…but it is not a low inertia reel. I can see another 21 Presso in my future. I think the 2000 model would be better for using a nylon line.

Thanks for the quick update, Randy. I'm now really pumped to get mine, which just shipped DHL

I just got off the phone with Scott ( @ultraslab ), his Presso LT also arrived today, and he is already out in his boat catching fish with it! He caught 2 while on the phone with me, out in today's cold wind. Brrr. His replacement Limber Tip SS rod from Evergreen also arrived today (finally), a happy coincidence indeed, but I'll let him tell the sad story of that saga if he chooses to.

Maybe a quick first impressions video is forthcoming, not a lot out there on it yet.

Thanks for watching Stan. The video was not my best effort. Been fighting different medical issues for 3 months now. Nothing serious but a lot of little stuff that they can’t seem to find the reasons for. It just gets frustrating going to doctors only to be referred to another doctor. As to the reel. It is one sweet reel. While I wish it was made in Japan it is what it is. But I have to say it is of high quality. I find it to be slightly better than the Presso Limited. The 10 grams reduction in weight is very noticeable as soon as you pick it up. Will have to get a Zaion knob and try to find a carbon 35mm handle.

    Regards
