Hey John. Waiting on my new reel I went to town today to look for a new rod. Lightest rod I could find was a 6' Ugly Stick rated for 6-12 pound line. Figured I'd try it. Brought it home and put that little Daiwa on it. 6# line, 1 1/4" round cork bobber and 1/8th oz jig. put the Daiwa on it and took it outside, cast's like a dream. This would work well for blue gills! Can't wait to get the new reel. It'll go on the Ocuma rod. For it I'll put on a 1" round cork slip float and might even try down to 1/16 oz jig. Couldn't find 2# line but did get a spool of 4#. Might have some 2# left from loading my little Ocuma UL reel! yea but only maybe 150yds, probably not enough! Waiting to get the truck license on and have the canoe on the truck. About time for a trip to Prineville Res and check out the crappie! Water to low to drag the boat that far just to find out I can't launch. Goin to the river tonight to try for some cats. Might go early and check out the small mouth's with this new UL casting rig. Finally found a use for a low profile casting reel maybe!
If you try this this summer, the little Daiwa is an RG. Got it about a year ago for something like $40 at the Bi Mart. The Ugly stick I just put it on was $38 at the Walmart. Found the cork float's at the Bi Mart too.
