I took the new Lunakia out Tuesday. The fish were not biting, but I got a good idea of the capabilities of the LK6102S-MLT.
First impressions:
-The rod is matte black and charcoal, not really any bling, no silver or gold thread or fancy cork. It seems functional rather than fashionable.
-The butt end is stiff and strong and seems capable of handling big fish.
-The tip end is super light and thin but not soft or slow in action. The 1.2 mm diameter tip seems fragile, and I'm worried about breaking it, but that won't keep me from reaching for this rod first when I get to the lake.
-My lightweight Ballistic FW reel is a perfect match for it.
-The tiny "micro" guides are so small that threading the line through the last few guides is going to be tough for people with poor vision.
I wish I had not forgotten my HatEyes! Fortunately, I just got my new bifocals, so this should be easier next time.
-It can cast longer than probably any other rod I have. A 1/8 oz jig went forever when cast by the Lunakia.
-It really is as sensitive as everyone says. You can feel every bump on the bottom of the lake. You can feel it in the rod tip when you speed up or slow down your retrieve.
Now I just need to get some fish on this rod! I will head back out over the long weekend and try a different lake with a better chance for some bluegill and crappie.
Overall, quite the upgrade on my Daiwa Spinmatic and Okuma SST rods!
