Tell us about the Daysprout reels. It looks kind of like an after market Daiwa.

The DaySprout is a tuned Daiwa Ballistic FW LT1000S-P. They added 4 bearings....2 in the knob....one in the drag support....one in spool support. They changed out the knob to a Zaion knob....then they painted the whole thing black. I did the same to my Ballistic FW. Except of course I don’t have mine painted black. I got mine for $216.....the bearing kit was 32 bucks....Zaion knob for $15. I’m all in at $247. But since one cannot get that reel at $216 anymore there is no advantage doing it yourself. The reel now runs about $270 or so....47 bucks for the tuning parts and you’re up to $317. The DaySprout sells for around 36,000 yen or so...and you get the black paint job. Knowing what I know now I would have bought 5 of the Ballistic FW LT1000S-P at the $216 price. I’m glad I did get 2 at that price. I need to mention it is a low inertia reel....somewhat close to a Presso Limited. One Japanese blog referred to the Ballistic FW LT 1000S-P as “The little Exist”.

    Regards

has anyone tried a regular us version of the tatula LT 1000 and compared it to some of the jdm reels in this thread? i realize the obvious things such as shallow spool and gear ratio differences, but how about the build, etc?

I have one, it is on a St Croix UL trout rod, and I do like it. It is the reason I looked at the Luvias and JDM stuff initially. I haven't really tried to compare it to my Luvias 1003. Great reel, think I paid around $150 on ebay back when I bought it.

I am not familiar with the Tatula reel and I can only comment on the two Legalis reel I own. I bought the LT 2500D from amazon ($55 US market) and the LT 1000S from Digitaka ($90 JDM). Besides the obvious pool size differences and the price the reel from Digitaka is much more well made and finished. There is more gold trims part such as the handle (black on the 2500S and Gold on the 1000s) and around the bail. On the 2500D the body looks like cheap plastic while on the 1000S it is finished with some type of shiny metallic coating. The only part that looks exactly the same is the spool (besides the size difference). Also, on the JDM model the Knob is replaceable while on the US market one it is fixed. There is no screw under the protective cap.

    Hope this helps!

For those who purchased a 2020 Luvias....and want to tuneful.....HedgeHog announced they will have bearing tuning kits probably this week. Which means the eBay seller in Florida will most likely have them also. I am almost certain the Ballistic FW LT1000S-P tuning kit will fit...but I will wait to see.
