JDM rods relating to Panfish

Ok....some advice. Throw out all you know about US market UL rods.....most of it just does not apply to JDM UL rods that many of us are using. The only rods that would come close to a St Croix Panfish action....and or power....would be area or stream trout rods. I don’t know the first thing about a stream trout rod as they are mostly used to cast spoons....small hard baits. They are not that sensitive and that is why I stay away from them. I would ask what type lure and weight you would be casting.....what specie. I’ve got some videos on my channel that explains and shows bending curves of Ajing......Mebaru......and area trout rods. All of my rods are high build quality but the Olympic Graphiteleader rods that are made in Japan are of impeccable build quality.....as is the TenRyu Lunakia. From your post sounds like an 2018 Corto from Graphiteleader would fit the build.....but 4# test line is max for that rod. But it is a heck of a rod. Several on here own one. So if you can tell us what you want to do with it we could better help you.

I suppose I could have given some useful info! I would be mostly crappie, perch, and bluegill fishing. Sometimes from a boat in wooded reservoirs, other times fishing river tailrace for crappie. Of course there are bass, pike and walleye that will mix in. 90 percent of the time I'm using 1/16-1/8 oz jigs with plastics. Thanks for the replies everyone ��

The 2018 Corto can handle that.......6’ 10” L rated......1/2 gram to 8 gram lure rating.....line rating 4# max.....and that is true 4# test not US market 4# test which could be from 6 to 8 pounds. It is a beautiful rod that weighs only 2 ounces.....solid tip with a diameter of 7/10 of a millimeter.

I have the 6.10 Corto also. It weighs in at a fraction under 2 ounces, 56g and is super sensitive. I know where you are coming from, used a St Croix Panfish UL 7ft for a couple years, fishing 1/32 to 1/16 jigs on light braid. A great combination, put a lot of fish in the boat with it. You can actually go back through the archives here on this thread and find where I too came to the JDM dark side. 4 rods and 5 reels later, all JDM, may wallet is much lighter but my enjoyment of UL angling has grown exponentially. The Croix is gathering dust, and I have an order in for another Corto, the 7.4, to use for 1/16 jigs and 4lb test line. Read and research all you can on these wonderful rods and reels from across the pond, watch the videos by Alphahawk and others on this equipment and I think you will find the right rod (or rods) for your applications.

That was a good video Randy. Thanks for sharing. I really had no idea how fishing rods were made. I never really thought to look it up. I was very impressed at the level of detail with inspection process. They even checked out the inside of the blank with a microscope!

Also didn’t realize there were JDM golf clubs. Almost makes me want to take up golf! Ha ha ha!

Up until about 2009 I was an avid golfer of 40 years playing off a 7 handicap. I used to golf 2-3 days a week and fish the other time. Japanese golf gear is outstanding....and very expensive.....just like the rods and reels. What is funny I never put 2 and 2 together to check into Japanese fishing rods until about 2012....go figure.
