JDM rods relating to Panfish

I am currently reading through this thread, but wanted some feedback please. I fish mainly for bream/crappie/small largemouth bass and have been targeting a new ultralight setup.

I was all ready to buy a St.Croix Avid for UL fishing, but more research led me here. What JDM rod in the same price range of the St. Croix Avid (200ish) should I be looking at? Will the Major Craft Finetail Area work for my needs or is there another JDM that will work better? SUL or UL? Sometimes I occasionally get into a 2 pound bass, so I want to make sure I have enough rod to handle it.

I have a Pflueger Purist 25 on the way. Will it pair nicely with a JDM rod?

I am sure Alphahawk and others will share their extensive experience with JDM rods, especially the ultralights. I have St Croix Avid, which I used to love until I bought my first JDM rod (super ultralight Soare SS Ajing). I recently ordered another JDM rod that will replace my Avid power-wise and function-wise. When I hold the Avid and the Soare side by side, I only want to fish the latter. I have been warned though...

Lot of JDM rods in that price range that are better than St Croix Avid. How much fun factor do you want.....how important is sensitivity to you? Are you primarily jig fishing? If so what weight range?

Fun factor is high on the priority list. If it makes any difference, I will be mainly pond hopping and fishing from the bank. I may get a kayak as some point, but I want to sort all this out first. Sensitivity is also something I'm looking for. I'm mainly fishing small jigs and spinners, and use anything from 1/64 up to 1/8 sometimes.

Let me think about that for a while and I'll get back with you tomorrow. My first thoughts are the Fine Tail FAX line of rods...but the 1/8 ounce is at the upper range on a couple of those rods. I'm sure others will have some thoughts also.

Thanks! I certainly appreciate it. An 1/8 oz lure is something I don't use often, but have on occasion.

Fax 632sul works pretty good for crappie, bluegill and awesome on trout. I caught 52 crappie with it today. Was definitely fun and not under powered when getting into a couple of larger crappie. I did use 3 lbs flouro bms fc sniper line with it and 1/64 oz trout magnet jig with it and still have good casting distance with a trout magnet float attached.

I do admit when getting into bigger crappie over 11 inches i switch to heavier usa made jig rod with 1/8- 1/4 jig
and yank them out [emoji41]

Just wanted to say that I received my Shimano Soare BB 7ft UL rod yesterday and took it out today. I didn't catch anything big with it but caught a couple of hand sized bluegills. The rod loads very well, and has a nice action...When I first put it together, I thought it felt like a noodle and that worried me. After fishing with it, I really like it. I'm not a technical kind of guy but the best word to describe it, is smooth, it's a smooth fishing rod.

I paired my Ballistic 1000 with it today and was very happy. Let me say this, I don't think it has the muscle of my Triple Cross...It's not as rigid or fast as the Triple Cross.

I was hoping to tussle with one of these Lake Barkley hammerhead shellcrackers but no luck today. I caught one monster last Thursday and haven't caught a magnum since...I'm getting frustrated. Lol

Crow is on the Menu once again. I did what I said I just could not bring myself to do yesterday on the lake. Yes GA tech dude and others, I shot a couple docks with the 7.4 Corto. Seriously, it was just a fluke thing, and pucker factor was high on the first couple tries, but man it was nice to feel that Thump when they connected.

I have read on here that the Triple Cross is a good dock shooting rod, but I left mine at home not even thinking I would rear back the tip of a good piece of Japanese graphite and let it fly. I may try the TC next time I get out, just have to work up the nerve again.
