Default Rock It Automatic Fish Scaler

Has anyone used this product that you tow behind your boat and it will scale the fish?

I've thought about using it but ever since I started finding worms in my fish I'd rather fillet them so I can make sure they're clean. I forgot the name but they're some kind of parasitic worm. Even though hot grease will kill them just the thought of eating them makes me sick.

I remember seeing a similar device MANY years ago - up on lake Erie - several people used them and they seem to work great. BUT - I agree w/ xSouthernx - If I can't fillet it - I don't keep it - that includes bream. Not only to really see all of the flesh (and yes, a lot of crappie do have the red worms in them) but - once you can eat a fish with NO BONES in it ......I have no desire to go back to scaling and gutting and all that. I never mes with scales, or guts or bones - it's a no brainer to me.

    Z-man,

    Amen!

I started filleting fish so I didn't have to worry about my kids eating it when they were little. Now I just can't go back to picking bones.

I would think that this would also apply to scaling fish also if you cut the head off. You may want to call and see before you spend the money on the scaler. See Link>>>Alabama Fishing Limits and General Regulations

"Note: It is a violation of Alabama law for any person to transport more than one day's creel limit of any species of game fish beyond the boundaries of this state. It is a violation of Alabama law for any person to fillet freshwater fish while on public waters except when fish are being prepared for immediate cooking and consumption, provided however, that fish may be drawn or gutted with heads left attached."????

I knew a man here in Huntsville that had a patten on one of these back in the 70,s and 80's that would float. I was friends with his son in law. We helped him make them. They work great. We would take a paper cutter board and cut the fish's heads off and put the fish in the scaler. We would put 25 or 30 in the scaler at one time. Pull it at about 15mph for 5 to 8 minutes.
He only sold a few. People wanted them but he just would not make them. He worked for NASA and was a drunk. Had more money that he could spend. That is why he never pushed making them. The one that don't float will sink if the rope breaks.
