Default Limestone Creek at Canoe Way

I checked out another Limestone Creek access area today off Canoe Way located here: 34.79341632340795, -86.8020880173932 .

There's a deep hole (9 feet) just downstream of the put in, but I worked upstream towards Nick Davis Rd. Lots of work since the creek splits into multiple forks with log jams, swift current and lots of narrow shoals. I had to beach my kayak and drag across several gravel bars where the water was to swift or shallow to paddle up. I eventually got into an area several hundred yards long that had water four to eight feet with numerous laydowns. I caught endless small gills, goggleye and returned several dozen short Crappie. No Bass today and the Gills and Crappie wouldn't rise to take a jig and bobber, but found them hugging the bottom in six to seven feet of water. All fish can off a 1/32oz jig head with a 1-inch slider body casting with the bait just off the bottom. The water was 50 degrees with visibility of about three feet.

I left with three Crappie that were between 9 1/2 and 10 inches, a couple large Goggleye and a dozen larger Gills. Another beautiful day on the water.

Most of these areas aren't fishable (at least for me) due to high water except July till around Sept. I decided to take advantage of the low, clear water and warm Temps to explore a little while off work on leave. Looks like that will all come to an end tomorrow. I typically don't fish Limestone until the water gets below 70 CFS, ideally, I prefer 40 to 50 CFS.
