Buckeye again yesterday after work, the water was down a couple feet to what normal summer pool would be. This put the weeds on the edges in only 12 to 18 inches of water until it grows out, so all the fish move off the banks and suspend. This my favorite time when I can spider rig of the wind doesn't get up. The fish were chasing shad about five to six feet deep. I kept 9 and return the same number of larger fish. I also returned endless short fish with 10 to 15 tossed back for each fish that measured. Zero on jig and bobber, but picked numerous short Crappie tossing a 1" slider on a 1/32oz jig head. The small jig also coaxed several Bass and Gills including a 10" Shellcracker.
Fun short trip before all the rain this weekend and early next week.

Gate has been unlocked and open so far this year. I'm not sure if they'll lock it once the fields are planted as in the last few years or not. Until a few years ago it stayed open all summer, but some knuckleheads tore up the fields playing in their 4x4's and they started locking the gate. I've promised myself the first one I see I'm taking photos and sending to the Wheeler Game Wardens. I figure this is like the Arrowhead Landing area. We either protected it as sportsman and be good stewards of the environment or risk losing it because someone daddy didn't teach them right.
Yep. My favorite catfish spot at Beulah Bay was ruined by idiots tearing up the fields. They put up a gate and it’s closed year round.
