American Black bears are not really huge like the Brown Bears and Grizzlys. The bears here in the south are Black Bears.... I retired from 31 years with the Mississippi Forestry Commission...saw Black bears a few times. What few problems I heard about was somebody getting between a sow bear and her cubs and even then nobody got hurt ...they got out of the way and left and everything was fine.
