Caught a 38lber last year, I think we talked about a trip. Didn't get to go much this year. Smith is about an hour 15 minutes from Huntsville to the closest launch on cullman side. Crappie fishing is good on wheeler and smith, but smith fishes a lot different that the river does. Guntersville is great also but I'm not very familiar with it.
