I screwed my golden ruler to a piece of 1x6 the same length. I measure crappie and bass on one side, flip it over a cut up shad across a 5 gal bucket on the other. I keep my shad net and ruler in the bucket. Keep shad in the bucket, or minnows. It also has 3 notches in it and a piece of all-thread on hand and it becomes an additional rod hold when my sons come with me. Man, thats been a good bucket.

you can also just mark off all your rods with a piece of colored tape or model car paint....saves having to have a second item to deal with...
