If you are fishing in a strong wind and in the dark with a bow in your line like it seems to be lately for me you need hi-vis yellow to show up in your light so you can see the tick or the slack when a crappie tics it. I use 4lb test because I know based on my count about how deep the jig is based on how fast a 16th oz jig sinks with 4lb. I have used 6 but the jig does not sink as fast due to the diameter and it is more affected by current than the 4. As to breakage if it gets into a rock crack its going to break no matter the test unless you using 80lb braid which will slice your hand first if not using gloves. If it hangs on wood , my 4 will straighten the hook .As long as your drag is set right with the 4 and there are no nicks on your line and the fish doesn't go by or around a piling then you should not lose to many big fish
