I called Minn Kota and they told me spot lock was improved greatly with the Gen 2 in 2017. And, the Gen 1 motors cannot be upgraded to Gen 2. The link upgrade only allows fish finder to talk to trolling motor and adds jog function, but does not make it more accurate.
